Doctor Who: Season 5 Stays with BBC America

dvdsetsonline.com / 2009-08-11

BBC America has announced that they have acquired the rights to Season 5 of Doctor Who. This makes it official that the show has fully transitioned from its previous American home at SCI FI Channel (now Syfy) to BBC America.

Previous seasons had debuted on SCI FI, before than playing in a second broadcast window on BBC America. However, for the four specials marking the final run of David Tennant as The Doctor, BBC America had, for the first time, become the first destination for Who episodes in the US.

What was still not 100% clear was if the next full season of Doctor Who, starring new Doctor Matt Smith, would also now debut on BBC America. Now that we know the answer is yes, the channel notes that episodes will debut on BBC America in 2010 soon after their UK airdates.
